StandDesk has a humble yet impressive beginning. Co-Founder Steven Yu developed his very first standing desk to help his roommate, Ryan, improve his health. Ryan had tried other methods, like a stricter diet and an intense training schedule, but nothing seemed to work. So Steven made a desk out of computer boxes, a piece of wood, and a whiteboard. After just four weeks, the standing desk produced noticeable improvements. Ryan was visibly healthier and had even lost 10 pounds.
After seeing these results first hand, Steven dedicated himself to helping other people improve their health and mood through reasonable and affordable ways. At the time, there wasn’t a standing desk on the market that was both affordable and automatic. Steven decided to build it himself. By 2014, StandDesk had made $650k via a Kickstarter campaign, and the rest, as they say, is history.
